title: Brand identity
description: Set your brand name, document details, and public identity.
---

Keep the facts that identify your brand in `brand.meta`. Components can reuse
these values without repeating a name or description in every MDX page.

Replace `brand.meta` in `brandtree.config.ts` with the following object. Keep the
other required brand sections from your starter.

```ts
meta: {
  name: "Acme",
  legalName: "Acme Design Ltd",
  tagline: "Make useful things",
  documentTitle: "Brand Guidelines",
  version: "1.0",
  year: 2026,
  url: "https://brand.example.com",
  description: "Acme's visual identity and practical usage guidance.",
},
```

`name`, `documentTitle`, `version`, `year`, `url`, and `description` are required.
`legalName` and `tagline` are optional. `url` is the site's production origin used
by the generated Astro site and absolute metadata URLs; use the real public
address before publishing. `version` is a brand-document label, not the package
version. `year` is a number.

**One identity, several uses**

The public URL also affects canonical links and social previews. Set it to
your production origin, then follow [Build and deployment](/publishing) for
hosting and base paths. Translate names and descriptions through
[Localization](/localization), rather than duplicating the whole brand object.

Keep your brand story, mission, values, and voice in [MDX pages](/authoring).
These are editorial guidelines, rather than dedicated schema fields.
